WELCOME TO

Bay Area Scent Collective (BASC) is a community for fragrance lovers in the Bay Area that includes curious beginners to full-on perfume nerds. We’re here to explore scent, swap recommendations, discover local boutiques, and build real connections through perfumes and shared experiences.

This isn’t just a “follow and lurk” type of group. BASC is for people who want to participate, learn, and show up (online and in real life when they can).

WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

Our vibe: welcoming, fun, and community-led.
Our mission: build a local fragrance community that connects online conversation with real-life experiences.

In BASC, we:

Meet up monthly for structured, elevated fragrance centered events with local olfactory enthusiasts (hey frag fam!)
Discover and support Bay Area fragrance spaces (boutiques, pop-ups, events)
Learn about scent (notes, performance, layering, seasons, occasions, etc.)
Share honest reviews (no pressure, no snobbery)

WHO THIS GROUP IS FOR

BASC is for you IF you:

Love smelling good and want to learn more
Want fragrance friends to talk to beyond “this smells good”
Like trying new scents and sharing opinions
Want to attend local meetups when you can
Enjoy respectful discussion (not drama)

This group is also inclusive of all genders because scent is for everybody!

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Facebook Group

You’ll see:

Discussion prompts (easy to answer, fun to post)
Community recs (date-night scents, office-safe scents, compliments, etc.)
Layering and routine tips
“What are you wearing today?” threads
Mini challenges (ex: 5-day scent theme week)

Expectation: Members should engage at least once a month - comment, react, or post! We want to hear from you!

We host one meetup per month. Each one has structure so it’s not awkward and people actually connect.

Typical meetup flow:

Welcome + intros (quick and guided)
Featured theme (ex: Vanilla Night, Fresh & Clean, Date Night, Niche vs Designer, Men’s Spotlight)
Scent experience activity (sampling table, guided smelling, layering demo)
Social time + photos + optional swaps

Some events may include:

Boutique partnerships / city perfume tours
Workshops /classes
Wine bar or restaurant hosting
Guest speakers (perfumers, store owners, content creators)
Giveaways, raffles, and group exclusives

The BASC monthly newsletter and announcements are sent out via email and posted in our Facebook group will focus on:

Official BASC meetups
Partnered events
Frag Talk! (new drops, wish lists, favorite notes, etc.)
Major Bay Area scent happenings when relevant

MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

To keep BASC enjoyable and high-quality, we enforce these community standards:

Respect First

No bullying, disrespect, harassment, or shaming anyone’s taste or budget.
No sexist, racist, homophobic, or hateful content - instant removal.

No Spam / No Unapproved Promotion

No random self-promo, affiliate links, “DM me,” or sales posts.
If you’re a business/creator and want to share something, you must request approval first.
Approved promos must provide value (education, event discount, community benefit).

Keep It Real

Reviews should be honest. You can dislike something without being rude.
If you’re sharing a “dupe” or inspired-by fragrance, label it clearly.

Buy/Sell/Swap Rules

Must be fragrance-related.
No counterfeit items.
Must include photos, full levels, condition, and pricing.
All transactions are at your own risk; BASC isn’t responsible for disputes.

Community Participation

Lurkers are welcome, but BASC is built by engagement.
If someone remains completely inactive for a long period, we may remove them to keep the group active and aligned.

Event Behavior

If you RSVP, show up or cancel early so someone else can take your spot.
Respect the host spaces (wine bars, boutiques, restaurants).
No disruptive behavior.
